Ala re ala, dabbawala ala!
Straight from aamchi Mumbai, the dabbawala has landed at your doorstep here in Gurgaon. Upon entering Park Plaza, you find friendly smiles welcoming you to their restaurant. A man dressed in white dhoti and shirt, dressed as a typical dabbawala welcomes you. It is both intriguing and contrasting. A grand buffet is laid out right in front. I was tempted to reach out to the cakes, but I was here for the dabbawala event and decided that for once I will stick to healthy food. The cafe has some beautiful artwork on the walls.
The menu was simple, Chicken Curry/ Aloo Methi, Roti, Dal, Rice and Pista Burfi. We were served papad and achaar alongside. I chose to eat the non-veg dabba. The same dabbawala came with our dabbas in a huge tray like carrier.
Oh the dabbas were reminiscent of childhood, when we carried these stacked tiffin to school. It looked like the ordinary home food. And yes it tasted the same. Although nothing can replace mommy’s food, this food was healthy and not overly spicy. I enjoyed my curry and dal. The quantity was enough for a person.
Later I even grabbed a small bite from the buffet as I just could not control the Chator in me! The chocolate cake was delicious- moist and creamy. I enjoyed the cheese and crackers too. But I did not go all out like I usually do, because I just had a wholesome meal. Of course the only thing I missed was a bed where I could peacefully take an afternoon nap..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
